We are pleased to welcome you to the OTIUM Center, from October 1, 2021 to February 28, 2022, a painting exhibition by Marie-Catherine Barras

About Marie-Catherine Barras

Born in Geneva in 1999, Marie-Catherine Barras has always admired the ability of human beings to create. She has been visiting museums from an early age. These become landmarks when she rambles. A paradox when we learn that art itself is rambling.

Her curiosity about our species led her to study anthropology in Canada. After a few months, Marie-Catherine returned to Switzerland and took a break from her studies. During 2018, she spends most of her time in the mountains of Valais. She produces her first mural in her garage.

Her passion for painting took a different turn, and Marie-Catherine became aware of the necessary link between art and her well-being. She wants to connect people to each other, but above all to themselves. In 2019, she will begin her training in philosophy at La Sorbonne, where she is currently completing her final year of her bachelor’s degree. This intellectual stimulation gives her the confidence to keep on creating.

Since then, hardly a day goes by without Marie-Catherine painting. For her, painting is a way of externalizing and sharing her psychic expressions. For her, life is a perpetual quest, and thanks to art, the analysis of all these trials becomes clearer. These productions, which are therapeutic for both artist and viewer, are part of a world full of injustice, but also full of beauty. For her, her art is the best expression of her gratitude mingled with her pain in the face of so much incomprehension.

Through this exhibition, which links abstractions and enigmatic figures, Marie-Catherine invites us to immerse ourselves in the colors of parallel universes with the help of several of her friends. Writings by each of them will be presented with each of the pictorial works. A sheet of paper will be available to the public for your feedback.
